Shortly after Google announced the date for its upcoming fall Pixel hardware event, two of the high-profile devices, namely the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, arrived at the FCC for approval.
On Wednesday afternoon, the FCC released documents submitted by Google for the approval of five new devices with the model numbers GKWS6, G9BQD, GZPF0, GPJ41, and G1MNW. Earlier this year, the model GKWS6 was mentioned in a filing for the “Pixel 8,” where the company released wireless charging details.
The FCC e-label instructions included in all five filings indicate the process of accessing “About phone” within the Android settings. Google is expected to unveil two main models this upcoming season—the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. However, it looks like these phones to have various versions. For instance, flagship Pixel phones are often offered with and without mmWave 5G connectivity. Additionally, international variants may exhibit slight differences and still require FCC approval.
The Google Pixel 8 and 8 Pro Identified
In this context, the documentation for GZPF0 notes that it’s internally identical to G9BQD and GKWS6, except for the omission of mmWave connectivity. Similarly, the GPJ41 paperwork directly mentions the GKWS6 model. Notably, all four of these models do not include any reference to UWB (Ultra-Wideband) connectivity. This suggests they may be the standard Pixel 8. On the other hand, the unique model G1MNW does feature UWB, indicating that it is more likely to be the Pixel 8 Pro.
Gizchina News of the week
During the night, two more entries appeared on the FCC for model numbers GC3VE and G39DP. According to the documentation provided, GC3VE represents a version of the Pixel 8 Pro with mmWave capability deactivated. Meanwhile, G39DP identifies as the non-US model of the Pixel 8 Pro.
Google May Launch 7 Different Models of the Pixel 8 Series
With these recent additions, the count reaches seven distinct models of Google’s latest Pixel flagship devices. We will have four for the Pixel 8 and three for the Pixel 8 Pro.
Apart from these details, the FCC listings for the Pixel 8 series provide precisely what one would anticipate from Google’s upcoming phones. These include comprehensive support for Bluetooth, Wi-Fi 6E, as well as both Sub6 and mmWave 5G connectivity.
These submissions to the FCC follow closely after similar listings for the Pixel Watch 2, another device that we also anticipate will launch in October. Additionally, Google seems to be preparing for the launch of a new Fitbit tracker, as we recently observed.
