The contribution of China to the development of 5G network is huge. Apart from the likes of Nokia and Ericsson, only a few other brands are on par with top Chinese brands like Huawei in terms of 5G equipment. As a major player in the 5G industry, Chinese brands often make headlines. According to Beijing Mobile, the first 5G-A experimental base station in Beijing was opened. This station was opened at the International Information Port in Changping District. “5G-A” is what we usually call 5.5G, which is the transition stage between 5G and 6G.
Gizchina News of the week
The report from Beijing Mobile reveals that 5.5G will surpass the existing 5G in some aspects. 5.5G will surpass 5G in terms of speed, latency, scalability, and energy efficiency. It will also realize the peak rate of 10 Gigabit downlinks and millisecond-level delay. At present, the first 5.5G base station in Beijing has completed the construction of integrated synaesthesia and passive IoT field.
At MWC23, the senior vice president of Huawei and president of ICT products and solutions said that 6G is still in the early research stage. Thus, 5.5G is the only way to upgrade and evolve 5G networks. As we said earlier, the 5.5G can offer a downlink rate of 10Gbps. This means that it is a 10x increase from the original 5G’s 1Gbps. At the same time, it has also improved tenfold in terms of delay, positioning, and reliability. In addition, a few days ago, Hangzhou Mobile also announced that it will join hands with Huawei to launch the “Double 10 Gigabit City”. The company will use the 5.5G tech to build the next gen of new infrastructure.
Final Words
The development of 5G will take time and the process is usually slow. The time interval between communication network major upgrades is usually 10 years. The interval between 2G and 3G as well as 3G and 4G is about 10 years. However, between 4G and 5G took between 7 years to 8 years. Except tech brands move fast with their R&D, 6G may not launch before 2029.
