Android 14 to Allow Simultaneous App Launch in Split-Screen Mode

Dual App Launch in Split-Screen Mode

Google is currently working on the Android 14 system which will launch later this year. Several reports have surfaced about the new features expected in the Android 14 system. However, it’s important to note that most of these reports are merely rumors and not concrete. On the Android system, the native split – screen feature has been available for several years. Many Android brands already use this feature. At one point, Google had planned to launch an app combination feature.. This feature would allow users to launch two apps at the same time in the split – screen mode. However, the company was unable to launch this feature with the Android 12 system.

Nevertheless, it seems that Google hasn’t given up on the feature. Recent rumours suggests that this feature will launch with the Android 14 update. Mishaal Rahman who have had some decent leaks in the past claims that Google has added a new launcher flag to Android 14 Beta 2. This launcher flag enables the option to “Save App Combination,” which hides the split – screen menu in the recent apps view.

Feature is not yet active

Currently, enabling this hidden flag has no effect, indicating that the feature is not quite ready yet. Once this feature is completed, users will be able to utilize the ‘Save App Combination’ option. Of course, the app combination are those that would be able to launch simultaneously in the split – screen mode.

App composition is more useful on devices like the Pixel Fold and Pixel Tablet than on regular phones. This is because the former comes with a larger display with a sizable space for dual app opration. Like we said earlier, this feature is not entirely new. Samsung already offers a similar app combination feature on its flagship Galaxy S and Tab devices. Even Microsoft offers something similar on its Surface Duo line.

Google’s I/O 2023 did not reveal much on ‘Android 14’

As we all know, Google has not been saying much about the Android 14 system. Thus, it is difficult to confirm anything about the new system. At the Google I/O 2023 keynote speech, we had expectations that Google will reveal quite a few things about the Android 14 system. However, the company chose not to reveal too much. At the event, mentioned how the new Android 14 system adds new lock screen customization options. Besides this, the company did not say too much.

Android 14

In terms of the clock, Android 14 has at least 6 styles to scroll and choose from according to Google. Most of these styles are just different font options with designs with the time in the upper left corner. Also, the Day and Date are displayed vertically on the left edge next to the current weather conditions. On the other side, there is temperature and a digital analog option for Google Clock.

In addition, Google has also revealed support for custom lock screen shortcuts. In addition to adding “removed options,” there are new shortcut options for Torch, Wallet, QR Scanner, Google Home, and Camera. There are also reports of generative AI wallpapers made using structured prompts and Google’s text-to-image diffusion model will be “launched this fall,”. All these are expected to arrive with the Android 14 system.

Google uses a different style

In the past, Google used to highlight the key features of major Android systems at its I/O events. However, this year, it takes a different route and chose to keep a lot of info under wraps. In fact, the company did not even mention the latest Android 14 beta as well as partner devices. It appears that the company has a lot to offer and this time it wants it to be a surprise.
