Rising Cost Could Have a Major Impact on the Upcoming Flagship Phones

Flagship Phones

Although the market has tons of great phones, most of the conversations revolve around flagship smartphones. After all, the flagship phones bring most of the innovation. And eventually, what we see in the high-end devices trickles down to the budget-friendly and mid-range devices over time.

Another thing that makes flagship phones desirable is that they come with all the features that smartphones can ever offer. And many of us want to have something with the latest and greatest tech inside. All of this essentially leads to an increase in the prices of high-end phones.

But the upcoming flagship phones could see the biggest jump ever. Due to the rising manufacturing cost, the 2024 flagship devices could see anywhere from a $50 to $200 price jump. And this could even be noticeable in lower-high-end devices.

Major Flagship Phones Will Soon Be Less Affordable Than Before

This news shouldn’t come as a surprise. Just recently, I reported that Qualcomm is again charging a higher-than-expected price for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. And the case was pretty much the same for the current-gen Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. It costs $160 per unit, which is a lot if you consider the overall price tag of a phone.

Considering the price jump of the core component, the SoC, some of the manufacturers are willing to use an alternative for the upcoming flagship phones. As a matter of fact, some will reportedly use the current-gen Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 instead of the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

But the prominent players do not really have the option of using an alternative or last-gen SoC. After all, they represent the innovations that take place within the industry. And for that reason, the upcoming major flagship phones will see a noticeable price jump. These include the Galaxy S24 series, Pixel 8 lineup, and Xiaomi 14 series.

There’s no official word regarding how much the price jump will be. But according to Yogesh Brar, a trustable source, it could be anywhere from $50 to $200. Of course, we will need to wait for at least one of the major flagship phones to release to know for sure.
