Microsoft’s Game-Changing Fix for Outlook is Finally Here

Microsoft Outlook

Microsoft Outlook is going to receive an update that will fix the current size limit for sharing files through the email service. Soon, instead of having limits on attachments, users will be able to upload files to OneDrive and then share them using email.

Microsoft Outlook is designed in a way that makes it difficult for users to attach and send large files. It’s common to surpass the maximum size limit and face difficulties sending certain files through Outlook.

Users Can Now Use Microsoft OneDrive Cloud Storage in Outlook Microsoft Outlook

The upcoming update will let you use Microsoft’s OneDrive cloud storage to accomplish this task. According to the explanation on the official Microsoft 365 roadmap, if you try to attach files in Outlook that are too large or if an attachment makes an email exceed the 20MB size limit, you will receive a prompt to upload the file using OneDrive for simpler sharing.

Microsoft is planning to introduce this feature around September 2023. It will be initially available for Android users, and it will be rolled out to other platforms shortly afterward.

This update will be particularly helpful for people using the free version of Microsoft Outlook, especially those who have the strictest limits on both Outlook and OneDrive. Currently, the free storage capacity for Outlook is 15GB, and for OneDrive, it’s 5GB. With the upcoming update, free Microsoft users will have a combined storage of 20GB to manage between these two services.

Why Microsoft Added this Feature to Outlook Microsoft Outlook

Nevertheless, these limitations are probably part of the brand’s strategy to encourage more free users to switch to its paid Microsoft 365 services. The paid plans offer bigger storage capacities and reduce the chances of email congestion. Opting for these paid options would also benefit the company financially.

Microsoft is not the only company using storage limits on free accounts to motivate users to become part of its ecosystem. Google provides 15GB of storage for free Gmail accounts. This also covers services like Google Photos, Google Workspace, and Google Drive. These services can consume storage space quickly, and when that happens, Google presents two choices: either delete data to free up space or buy more storage through its Google One plans.
