Nintendo announced in its blog today that its Switch platform network service will be undergoing “network maintenance work”. During the network maintenance time, the eShop store on the Switch platform cannot be used. However, gamers can still use the web-based eShop to browse and buy games.

After inquiries, Nintendo further explains the planned maintenance with some details. The company said that it will carry out the work in two days which are seven days apart. The first will take place on August 22 while the other will take place on August 29. With regards to the exact time that the maintenance work will take place, Nintendo said on August 22, the work will take place between 12:00 – 13:00 which is a one-hour interval. However, on August 29, the company said that the work will take place between 10:30 – 16:30. This is a six-hour interval. From the official report, we can see that the maintenance service on August 29 will take a longer time than the one on August 22.
The company explained that the reason for the maintenance is for the “use of credit card”. Therefore, it is expected that the eShop store will support credit card binding in more regions after maintenance. eShop is a digital distribution platform established by Nintendo and supported by Nintendo Network. It started serving in the United States, Japan, Europe and Australia in June 2011.
