Apple Defies the Odds: Mac Sales Rise Amidst PC Industry Decline

PC industry in Q2 2023 is not doing well, according to the latest IDC research. In their report, this is the sixth consecutive quarter of PC sales decline.

Total deliveries witnessed a significant decline of 13% from 71 million to 61.6 million compared to the previous year.

This is just part of larger unfavorable market conditions, present for a while now. Literally, every manufacturer that makes Windows PCs encountered a PC sales decline.

On the other hand,  if you ask Apple, things are not so bad. Just the opposite. Despite many issues Apple has been through in Q4 2022, it apparently recovered and managed to increase its sales in Q2.

Gizchina News of the week

The top 5 manufacturers experienced a PC sales decline, except Apple. Dell encountered the worst scenario. Its sales fell by 22% compared to Q2 2022. Acer and Lenovo haven’t done any better, since their sales fell by 19.2 and 18.4%, respectively.

Overall PC sales decline didn’t affect Apple

It is also interesting that Apple overtook Acer in terms of market share, and it now takes 8.3% of the world PC market. Other manufacturers from IDC’s Top 5 list still have a significantly larger market share, though. This is no surprise considering the average price of the devices. Most of their sales are made from cheaper models than Apple’s.

Amidst this PC sales decline, the main reason Apple sold more computers is obviously higher demand for their new devices equipped with Apple silicon. The M1 and M2-powered Macs are obviously doing well in the market. And with the arrival of the next-gen M3 chip, the demand could rise even more.

Apple recently introduced the new 15″ MacBook Air, with extraordinary battery life, which is the largest MacBook Air ever. There are also new devices in Apple’s roadmap. The new iMac, as well as new MacBook models, will be introduced later this year, or in the first half of 2024.
