iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro Still Have Slow Charging

Apple recently unveiled its latest iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro models. But some disappointing news came along with the presentation. Kayann Drance from Apple mentioned during the event that these new smartphones would support the Qi2 charging standard. But don’t get your hopes up for faster charging.

iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro: No Faster Charging yet

According to Macrumors, the charging power remains unchanged. The technical specs for the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro clearly state that Qi-based wireless charging is still capped at 7.5W. While MagSafe charging tops out at 15W.

Qi2, touted as a next-gen wireless charging standard, builds upon Apple‘s MagSafe technology. It introduces a magnetic power profile to ensure the perfect match between chargers and smartphones. Promising improved energy efficiency and faster charging.

Interestingly, some companies have announced Qi2 chargers that can deliver up to 15W of power, just like MagSafe. However, the disappointing twist is that the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro won’t be compatible with this faster 15W Qi2 charging feature.

Even MagSafe hasn’t received an upgrade in charging speed. Those rumors about faster wired charging? Not confirmed either. There were whispers that the iPhone 15 might support speedier charging with a 35W charger. But Apple’s technical pages remain silent on any such improvements. They still claim that these new iPhones will charge up to 50% in approximately 30 minutes with a 20W or higher adapter.

At Apple’s event, they introduced not only the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro but also the iPhone 15 Plus and iPhone 15 Pro Max, alongside new smartwatches like the Ultra 2 model. Notably, the iPhone 15 Pro is encased in titanium. Meanwhile, the iPhone 15 Pro Max boasts a sleek design with minimal bezels, and now sport 8 GB of RAM. However, it’s worth noting that the latest iPhone 15 Pro Max camera falls short in terms of zoom capabilities compared to some Android flagships.

Here are the full specs and features of the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro smartphones series:
